About PonyGrades
PonyGrades helps SMU students see how past students actually did in a course before they register for it. Students at many universities already have this. UW-Madison has madgrades.com, and UT Austin and Texas A&M publish grade distributions for every course. SMU students don’t, because SMU doesn’t release this data.
So we’re building the dataset ourselves. Every distribution on this site comes from students anonymously reporting their own grades. The more students contribute, the more accurate and useful it gets.
Meet the founder
Chloe Cochrane is the founder of Blast: On Campus, Confetti by Blast, and PonyGrades. She’s a freshman at Southern Methodist University, and she’s from Lakeville, Minnesota!
PonyGrades started the same way Blast did. Chloe noticed something about campus life that should be easier. Picking classes at SMU meant relying on group chat rumors and guesswork, because the university doesn’t publish grade distributions. She figured students could fix that themselves. So she built a place where Mustangs share real grades with each other, anonymously, one report at a time.
It’s all part of the same idea behind the Blast on Campus network: tools for students who want to feel genuinely connected to their campus, not just enrolled in it.
Privacy
We never collect names, emails, or student IDs. A report is stored only as a course, a term, and a grade. Sharing your own grade is your right. No university policy restricts it.
Accuracy
Because the data is self-reported, distributions are a sample, not a census, and samples can skew. Treat them as a directional signal, not a guarantee. If SMU ever releases official aggregated distributions, we’ll use those instead. (We’ve asked.)
Independence
PonyGrades is an independent student project in the Blast on Campus network. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Southern Methodist University.
